Boomkat Product Review:
Jim Putnam has been hanging around the Chemical Underground camp for years, fronting Los Angeles' The Radar Bros. this new album as Mt. Wilson Repeater finds Putnam sculpting his songwriting into angular electronic productions that place emphasis on freeform psychedelia over and above precision. Compositions like 'Islands In The Sun' are comparable to Mercury Rev or Flaming Lips outings in their hazy grandeur, while 'Pencils/Pens' has more in common with the shambling pop brilliance of Pavement. Despite the slightly fragmented odds'n'ends feel to some of the tracks, the album flows together uncommonly well, forming a satisfyingly fully realised whole with plenty of inventive and memorably askew instrumental passages dotted throughout.
