Boomkat Product Review:
‘Movement’ was originally released in 2003, and surprisingly listening to it today it hasn’t dated at all. Maybe that’s due to the fact that it was unashamedly retro to begin with, but then a good song is a good song, and that’s the ammunition these three punk-rockers have. Led by Beth Ditto’s shockingly confident vocals which come across like PJ Harvey mixed with Aretha Franklin, the short punchy tracks embed within themselves all the attitude of a wronged generation, a generation of kids with very loud voices. Take this to your Arctic Monkeys, Gossip might not claim to be your average white guy, but they are the voice of a seam of our culture rarely given a chance – they are the losers, the geeks, the freaks, the flamboyant, the fop, the oversexed, the desperate and the unique. Don’t believe me? Then you’d better give them a go then! Just don’t mention the White Stripes.
