Boomkat Product Review:
Fans of Robin Guthrie's brand of effects-laden guitar pop take note, Project Skyward's second album has the feel of an electronically embellished take on the Cocteau Twins maestro's oeuvre, complete with electronic beat designs and vast washes of echo and chorus. Adding more contemporary links in the album's dream-pop chain, you'll notice Ulrich Schnauss making an appearance in the credits for programming synths on a couple of songs, but this is primarily the work of a single man: NYC's Ryan Skyward. The production sounds (probably deliberately) quite dated, as if made using equipment that probably hasn't been heard much since 1994, but this is all put to good use on songs like the epic 'Sirius The Brightest Star', which sounds like a soaring post-shoegaze anthem irrespective of what hi-tech software is or isn't being used.
