Boomkat Product Review:
Waajeed and Tresor prep the way for his ‘Memoirs of Hi Tech Jazz’ LP with a superb remix set starring Detroit’s Mad Mike and Zambia’s SHE Spells Doom
The original sees Slum Village co-founder Waajeed in proper Detroit house mode on the OG, cooking up strident acid bass, horns and effervescent keys into a classic bit of 313 business, before dialling in local cats, Zo!, Tall Black Guy, and Michele Manzo on a superb ‘People Mover’ remix, which has nowt to do with Karl Fultz’ Metroplex project, but is a standout piece of Motor City broken beat/hi tech jazz for the heads.
Zambia’s SHE Spells Doom also impresses on a tight remix clipped to a sort of Gqom-Adjacent torque and recalling Mbulelo’s Xerophytic Soul gear, whereas UR’s Mad Mike keeps more faithful to the original vibe, accentuating the late night funk with extra bass thrust and chops by the Mad Brass Horn Section and Six Mile Strings for plusher, fruitier effect.
