Boomkat Product Review:
Mick Harvey is the co-founder of The Bad Seeds and the Birthday Party so he's had plenty of instrumental experience, but rarely does he get a chance to shine on his own. It's lovely then to hear this compilation of his film work which is as deep and as diverse as you'd hope, strange though that it's put together in such a strange way. For instance the album begins with 'Two Guitars', a beautiful piece of phasing guitar work from the short film 'Lighting Fires', but to hear the other parts of the soundtrack (like the followon piece, 'Three Guitars') you have to skip to track ten? It seems like a bizarre choice to jumble up the soundtracks so mercilessly and doesn't do anything to help the listening experience along at all. All in all it's a great body of work but it's best listened to without reading the tracklist, which merely serves to confound us.
