Boomkat Product Review:
A remarkably lavish companion piece to Mikhail's 2007 album Orphica, this 3CD boxset is an elaborate remix project, although it's far more comprehensive and interrogative than most projects of that ilk. In addition to the music itself the package includes 15 limited edition artworks by a host of different artists, plus poems and texts of 'remixed' lyrics and perhaps most extravagantly of all, "contextual essays by cultural theorists". As for the music itself, the three discs are titled 'Electronics', 'Voices' and 'Strings' respectively, and while you get DJ Spooky as the most famous remixer on board, the most interesting work here comes from the Alamire choir, featuring members of the Hilliard Ensemble. Their contributions to the 'Voices' disc are arrestingly beautiful, making for a more precise and steadied counterpart to Mikhail's own rampant Bjork-isms.
