Boomkat Product Review:
Dr. Alex Paterson and Thomas Fehlmann a.k.a. The Orb return to Kompakt with 'Moonbuilding 2073 AD' - their 16th studio album and first for Kompakt in a decade. The pair still sound like a pair of stoners making music for themselves to hotbox the studio, and that's pretty much exactly what their legion followers are after. 'Moonbuilding 2703 AD' breaks down to four extended pieces, each one swimming in oceanic sub-bass and swarming with psychedelic FX. 'God's Mirrorball' hovers into first with their patented formula of daft vocal samples precipitating heavier clouds of dub-house chords and skanking bass pressure in its 14 minute course, before the fifteen minute 'Moonscapes 2703 BC' reverses the riddim, heavy troddin' in its shadowed, windswept footsteps with extra harps and perilous dread wormholes. 'Lunar Caves' trips down one of said wormholes, finding a ten minute synthscape of coruscating harmonics and sublime stalactite chimes, for the thirteen minutes of 'Moonbuilding 2703 AD' to gently FFWD us to a future ruled by '90s boom bap and brooding illbient pressure.
