Boomkat Product Review:
One of Room40s earliest releases, this comes from label co-organiser and Maher Shalal Hash Baz collaborator John Chantler, an Aussie ex-pat now residing somewhere in deepest darkest London. Housed in one of Room40s loveliest bits of packaging – a deep red wallet with a hole in the centre… mmmm bespoke! The music is harder to get your head around, it’s a kind of collision between electronic production and avant rock techniques, on one hand we have deep guitar drones comparable to Oren Ambarchi or Fennesz and on the other, glitched out percussion from chopped drum samples or xylophones. It all makes for a gorgeous listening experience and is far less ‘difficult’ than the rest of the label’s catalogue might have you believe. This has been hard to get hold of for some time now so it’s well worth grabbing while you can. Recommended.
