Boomkat Product Review:
Some deliciously weird vocal funk from the Philpot label, occupying a similar part of the music universe to Jamie Lidell or Bodily Functions-era Matthew Herbert, coloured by bloopy, minimal beat constructions and flickers of Rhodes piano. B-side 'Modernme' ditches the vocal and spurts forth a good old-fashioned drum machine-fuelled beat propped up by jolts of synth squelches and piercing stabs. Finally, label co-founder Michel Baumann supplies a remix of 'Modernist' under his Soulphiction moniker, partially preserving the vocal, but focussing on no-nonsense skeletal techno minimalism. Ace.
