Boomkat Product Review:
Various Production throw open the doors to invite the hotly tipped Gold Panda into the fold for his debut solo EP. It's possible you'll recognise his name from remixes for everyone from Little Boots to Simian Mobile Disco and Bloc Party, not to mention the extensive coverage from influential magazines like The Fader and the omnipotent Radio 1. Beyond the overtly melodic and pop friendly sound, there's actually not a lot of similarities between Gold Panda and his label mentors, as Mr Panda prefers heavily processed techno and glitch styled rhythms more akin to the likes of Nathan Fake or the more electronic ends of Four Tet. That said, he does manage to weave in dubstep influences on the intuitively swung edits of 'Mayuri' and the MPC button bashing of 'Long Vacation'. However, it's most likely that the Japanese inspired 'Back Home' will be his calling card for some time to come, easily flitting between indie electronic styles while sticking to a useful pulse of technofied bass to make this a staple in many DJs bags. Well, those that still use vinyl anyway. Lovely.
