Greek techno mutator Rhyw snaps back into action on his first of 2023 with four warped bangers for fans of Blawan, Peder Mannerfelt, Mor Elian
Previously found dicing with techno dancehall on the Berlin-based Fever AM label he runs with Mor Elian, here Rhyw is in strident effect with a clutch of lean, shatterproof air-benders built for peak time momentum. A clue to his steez is in the title ‘Mister Melt’, as he presents acidic forms in flux between hi-velocity techno and garage, each riddled with constantly shapeshifting, quicksilver details. ‘Engine Track’ racks up a strong head of steam with buckled speed garage bassline threatening to fall off the 140bpm+ grid, whereas ‘Mister Melt’ tightens up the groove while the chattering lead synth carries the unusually expressive funk data. It gets really screwy in the stumbling jack of ’Spritz’ like Blawan reworking Matthew Herbert, and gets down to loosey goosey behaviour in the trilling, writhing shape of ‘Wolf Town’.
