Boomkat Product Review:
Dubstep titan Rob Ellis aka Pinch heads up a timely collection of his original tracks, remixes and rarities released outside his Tectonic stable. There's no better introduction to his ascetic, optimised Bristolian sound than this disc's mighty opener, 'Qawwali VIP', the special request B-side to his signature drop on Planet Mu way back in 2006 which still gives us shivers now. It's placed next to a rare 116bpm remix excursion, turning Gaudi + Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's 'Dil Da Rog Muka Ja Mali' into a downstroked swinger, next to the likes of his fearsome 'Chamber Dub' for Soul Jazz; the technofied '136 Trek' for Punch Drunk and 'Mutate(d) Re-Work' of 30Hz (gotta be honest, missed this 1st time around!); the scissoring syncopations of 'Attack Of The Giant Killer Spiders!'; a stone-cold classic rework of Henry & Louis' 'Rise Up', and that plunging halfstep overhaul of Emika's 'Double Edge'. All together, it's proof, if needed, of this producer's assured place in the UK bass hall of fame. And did we mention there's a hidden track - his first ever production from 2004?! Recommended!
