Boomkat Product Review:
Sterling solo debut business from fLako. He's been around for a few years now, dropping bombs like the Jay Scarlett and Gaslamp Killer favourite Vortex Cookies - a remix of Robot Koch - and landing tracks on the likes of Ghostly International and Brownswood Recordings, so it's kinda hard to believe that's this is his first fully solo release. Opener 'Chroma' exposes his jazzy soul in fine style, infusing his loose but crisp downbeats with odd electronic voices and off-kilter melodies, while 'The Awful Dynne' makes like Flying Lotus with crafty double-timed rhythm programming and twinkling jazz sensitivity. Flip it and 'Doldrums Love Opera' makes a valid entry for the Neo-Soul crowd with shaking Afrobeat electronics and sumptuous vocal harmonies, while 'Gentle' augments shuffling Afro Latin percussion with lush subs and 'Kelau' again toys with tricky double-time intricacies on an exceptionally cute little ditty with sweet string and brass arrangements. Fans of Dimlite, Dorian Concept, Kutmah or Flying Lotus don't want to sleep on this!
