Boomkat Product Review:
Coming from a family of electronics enthusiasts, Nathan Jonson's disjointed beats are quite a contrast to brother Mathew's slick and seamless fusion of techno, house, jazz and drum 'n' bass. With releases on labels such as Sub Pop and Iswhatitis and Wagon Repair, Nathan's Hrdvsion project bridges the gulf between techno and modern experimental music. Adventurous and eccentric, his records can meander from the intricately beautiful to unashamedly grimy in seconds, a trademark theme detectable in this, the Jonson siblings' first released collaboration. Nathan sets the pace, focusing mainly on drum programming, whilst Mathew sculpts the bass and melodic content with layers of analogue and digital sounds, resulting in a infectious concoction of breaks, grime and drum 'n' bass. This collaboration was also partly conceived as a remix project, and an opportunity for the brothers to cut up each others' creations. First up for the chop is Mathew's 'Return Of The Zombie Bikers', with Hrdvsion using Ableton to cut and mix a distinct reinterpretation of his brother's work on the B side.
