Boomkat Product Review:
An instant fave from NNF's castle in the sky courtesy of a young Swede named Sand Circles. His first release for the label showcases an undeniably Scandinavian synth sound full of perfectly resolved pop chords and melancholy midnight romance wrangled from an array of vintage drum boxes and keys. It's like the sound in Johan Agebjörn's head just before he falls asleep; streams of European trance-gaze melodies and ultra-relaxin' New Age drift tones heard through a pillow of fuggy tape noise. There's a touch of Tangerine Dream to the distant metropolitan vision of 'Midnight Crimes' while 'Sun Circles' feels more suspended in a New Age time warp and 'Neon Boulevard' could be a Bochum Welt miniature found on a weather worn floppy disc. Best of all are the two beat driven tracks, the eternally optimistic soft boogie of 'Infinity Pool' and the weepingly affective 'Stellar Waves', sounding like a distant relation to Oneohtrix Point Never. So cute, so essential. Recommended!
