Boomkat Product Review:
Shimmering nightlights from Kompakt debutantes Blank Gloss, slotting sweetly into the label’s particular brand of Pop Ambient™
As previously highlighted on the Pop Ambient 2021 compilation with ‘Of A Vessel’, which appears here, the Sacramento duo of Patrick Hills and Morgan Fox have hatched a fine line of sunset-beckoning guitars and synth hues that effortlessly quiesce and kiss the mind. They now double their album tally after late 2020’s ‘January’ for Miami’s Night Young label - which has justifiably been compared to Suzanne Kraft & Jonny Nash’s gilded offerings - with a longer album in ‘Melt’ offering plush room to sink into and swim around their sound, glyding from the plangent tranquility of ‘Those Who Plant’ to puckered Eno-esque drift in ‘Virga’ and a beautifully strung out but succinct closer ’Stained Glass’ set to strum on the heartstrings.
