Boomkat Product Review:
Gulcher is a label that's previously brought you works by Magik Markers and Kurt Vile, and this eponymous outing from Meercaz denotes another fine acquisition for the label. Opener 'Legend' may well be the first garage rock song to make extensive use of sleigh bells, and it all sounds tremendous - like Jay Reatard with a '60s psych makeover. 'Defeated At Home' continues in this vein, like a wild reworking of some long lost Beatles studio outtake from the Sgt. Pepper days. Presumably Meercaz is a solo artist, though it's hard to tell: 'Manic Mirror' is a pretty amazing slice of proto-glam, sounding like a full band effort, while 'Unlust' comes across like some scorching emission from someone like The Hentchmen or The Go. Scrappy and frequently unintelligible, Meercaz's album is also an absolute blast.
