Boomkat Product Review:
Japan's DJ Empty returns Accidental to their dancefloor roots with a charming album of chattering machine dialogue and bubbling, rhythmelodic beats. As the label evocatively put it; 'Meaningless' "… sounds like a bunch of industrial machines, with melodic and melancholic tendencies, coming to life and organising a rave", neatly summing up its fluidly sentient yet mechanical qualities. In a lot of ways, Empty's a natural successor to Matthew Herbert's early work as Wishmountain, employing similar strategies of repetition and cadence and with strong taste for gritty, grubby electro and acoustic textures, but there's also something cutely zany and darewesay, Japanese, that's entirely individual to his music. Tipped for fans of owt from Harmonious Thelonious to Ancient Methods or Grungerman.
