Boomkat Product Review:
The Nodge returns! The first MDR release in what seems like far too long is reserved for the talents of the splendidly monikered Norman Nodge of Berghain fame, the infamous Lawyer/DJ with some of the most sought after techno productions around. The actual vinyl itself is about as anonymous as it could be, with no tracklisting and a label stamp for guidance, because of course it's all about the four raw and burning techno cuts on offer. The tracks range from abstract and experimental edged styles on the A-side with the dub-stomping oddity 'Attitudes' revolving about hypnotically insistent stabs sounding like a distant car horn mixed with subtle horn bleats, or the rigid trebly surfaces of 'Maniac' with glass cut hi end balanced by a powerful bass throb designed with the dancers in front of Berghain's Funktion 1 rig in mind. The B-side shifts up a gear with 'ManMade', a pure and raw Chicago debted cut pilled up with banging tomtoms and sparingly used stabs that cut right through the sinister murky atmospheres. 'Rush' is left to ellicit any remaining dance juice with another locked looper, winding up a dryly funked drum roll with subtly sweeping synthlines and the occassional bassline heave that should leave you gasping for more. A complete essential. TIP!
