Boomkat Product Review:
Kompakt 48 comes courtesy of Jonas Bering, 4 tracks under the title of ‘Marine’. And, very aptly titled they are, plenty of underwater washy sounds under aquatic 4/4 drums, there are some real atmosheric grooves immersed in these tracks. A-1 comes in on a Basic Channel tip, with the reggae lilt on the synths, excellent use of reverbs and a good sense of space adds a lot of depth. Ditto for A-2, another deep groove righteously delivered, though the noises appear from an abyss, beautifully shaped and heavily effected, with a light buzzing effect over the top. The b-side heads off into slightly more clear territory, the drums are less opaque, the beat has more prescence and could grace the nation’s more intelligent dancefloors. Serene strings adorn the beat and float across the track, the modulation is played upon until the strings become apparent and part of the pattern, a lush puppy of a track. The second cut on the b-side follows the same superbly excecuted format, warmth permeates the instruments, a kind of Detroit warmth that shows in the groove as well. Kompakt as a rule release glorious records, and they follow this rule to the letter on this ace 12”.
