Boomkat Product Review:
New on the Broken20 label comes this long-form curiosity from Erstlaub, and while you might not have come across his work before, ‘Marconi’s Shipwreck’ is the perfect place to start. A 74 minute undertaking, Erstlaub uses the time to develop his hissing, radio-snatched noise from waves of static into the kind of eroded dub that Basic Channel made their own back in the mid 90s. The development over time is the key to ‘Marconi’s Shipwreck’ and before you know it you’re dragged into Erstlaub’s vision, surrounded by warming analogue drones and hissing white noise. Gorgeous stuff, and well worth a listen.
