Major Tom / Radar Love
Delectable synth-pops from the legendary, enigmatic Space Lady of San Francisco! 'Major Tom / Radar Love' sits very pretty in the consummate Night School catalogue alongside releases from Group Rhoda, Molly Nilsson, Julia Holter et al; all artists who owe some debt of gratitude to The Space Lady's pioneering performances of popular songs on a Casio keyboard. She's been at it for over 35 years now, beginning on the streets of San Fran with her accordion in the late '70s, which was subsequently robbed, pushing her to buy a keyboard and continue creating her parallel, "outsider" pop dimension. Both songs here are taken from an upcoming and very promising compilation of The Space Lady's Greatest Hits, and includes her haunting rendition of 'Major Tom' - a firm Erol Alkan favourite, included on his 'Bugged Out' mix - and in parts eerily reminiscent of Maria Minerva, whilst flipside features the dream pop-shot of 'Radar Love' again with her feathered vocals, burbling rhythms and pink-smudged Casio keys bathed in tender reverb and tape fuzz. Simply, this is a total must have!
