Magpie Billy & the Egg That Yolked
"This is a Study of the complex behaviour patterns, communication calls, mating rituals, bad habits and eccentricities of Two highly individual male Apes living in the same House, but at different times. The First Ape is an aged Motorcycle Enthusiast, a Shed Dweller and creative. Whilst the 2nd Male primate, is a young, work hard, grunting Progressive Music Fan, with old fashioned values. This is not some tacky 'Now that's what I call... a Soppy Bleeder' copulation album on K- Tel records. Nor does it feature Gary Barlow on Piano looking wounded, whilst simultaneously looking at his calculator. However, You will find moments of mundane Joy, bleakness & misery, wisdom disguised as wit, sarcasm as an art form and a soupçon of heartache & horror. Ultimately, it touches upon the universal need to be loved but simultaneously left alone. The truth that love can only exist if you can escape it and what happens when you love deeply, but escape too far..
We are the Eccentronic Research Council and we have never known a happy ending. This record was inspired by artist such as; the Yellow Magic Orchestra, Goblin, Bernard Herrmann,Joe Meek,White Noise, Mark Edward Smith, Rodion G.A, Annette Peacock, Charlie Bubbles by Shelagh Delaney, Llaiyaraaja, Alfred Hitchcock, Baroque psychedelic pop & The Alcohol Years by Carol Morley...
Also the 'Tales From The Unexpected' and 'Hammer House Of Horror' TV series of the early 80's and 'Beasts' and 'Children of the Stones' from the 1970's. The words were written by the ERC's resident broken hearted, bitter & spiteful Ape on the verge of a nervous breakdown, Mr Adrian Anthony Flanagan. All music was written by Adrian Anthony Flanagan & his fellow ERC cohort, synth Yoda and producer, Mr Dean Honer(Of Sheffield wonky pop synth weirdos/Leg-ends I Monster and the All Seeing I). The voice/narrator you can hear is star of stage and screen and genuine Angel of the Northwest, Miss Maxine Peake. Additional live drums on tracks 3,5,9 & 12 played by producer Ross Orton (Arctic Monkeys,Tricky, the fall,Jarvis Cocker.) Recorded,Mixed and Mastered at The Bowling Green Studios, (except live drums at McCall Sound Studios)both in Sheffield, in the North of England."
