Magnetic Moments
Filigree, liminal, ambient/noise sculpture composed and mixed in binaural settings, sounds best with headphones but also rewards with speaker play. RIYL Christina Kubisch, Kein Drumm, Thought Broadcast, CMvH
“I like to think of music as a time based art form and sound as a sculptural material. The simple act of listening punctuates time and space. Building with an intangible object such as sound becomes kinetic and visceral.
With Magnetic Moments, I’ve tried to envision a space that can be entered, figures that can be touched and lines that can be drawn. The record is mixed in binaural audio and is one continuous composition with the ability to listen from beginning to end without track breaks.
The source sounds are made using custom designed software and modular synthesis. The attached images are a selection of stills from a video created using a phase scope during the mastering process of the entire album. The time stamp at the bottom left can be used to reference that moment in the composition.”
