Boomkat Product Review:
The band’s final album, dating back to 1981, Murder, Magic & The Weather saw them reuniting with legendary producer Martin Hannett who had worked on 1980’s The Correct Use Of Soap. The production and instrumentation of this record marks just how far Magazine had travelled since their incendiary 1978 debut. Songs like ‘The Great Man’s Secrets’ and ‘The Honeymoon Killers’ demonstrate a newfound emphasis on expansive, widescreen synth work and elaborate rhythms. By the time the album was released the band had already split, with Howard Devoto announcing his resignation not long after fellow founding member John McGeoch jumped ship to join Siouxsie and The Banshees. A genuine era-ending record, this. Awesome.
