Boomkat Product Review:
Local Action’s new starlet, Toronto/LDN’s Eden Samara gives us strong Jessy Lanza vibes on her label debut of effervescent, freestyle synth-pop rave
‘Madonna’ follows from Eden’s self-released 2019 introduction, the ‘Days’ EP, and guest chops on notable Loraine James and Parris records in ’21, with her first original material of a promising new relationship with Local Action.
It’s right on our sweet-tooth for ‘80s synth-pop and especially freestyle, with tremulous, fructose-boosted, ohrwurming vox harmonised to the kind of takes on this sound found in Anz’s speed garage-spliced freestyle on ‘All Hours’ EP, or shades of Annie’s classic ‘A&R’ session with Richard X, as much as Jessy Lanza’s joints with Jeremy Greenspan.
Don’t fight the feeling.
