Boomkat Product Review:
After a series of tech-house releases on Palette Recordings and Trapez, with remixes for Dominik Eulberg, Mossa and Sweet n’ Candy, Volsoc’s Justin Maxwell returns to electro with Carl Bradshaw (Limbertimbre). Between them they have come up with two tracks of incredibly dark, deep futuristic material - heavily processed, intricately edited, and involving weeks of meticulous sound design. The A-side, “M439 Class A,” begins with bass drops, detuned FM sweeps and sparse glitched beats, eventually rolling into a thunderous mechanical barrage of blips and stabs. The flipside features the Diskchordians’ remix of breaks artist Kraddy’s “New World Empire”, which was released on CD last year, but is remastered and released for the first time on vinyl here. A descending bass melody maintains the hook for the track whilst tuned kicks and twisting bass dives open out into a crystalline mystique, only to then release more churning bass and crunching layers on top.
