Boomkat Product Review:
While the title is likely to bring to mind some kind of eight year old heroin addict prodigy making ‘nu trap’, you might be surprised to hear that Pins are actually an awesomely dark pop group from Manchester. We’re not short of girl groups at the moment, but where Pins succeed is that they eschew the twee, crunchy jangle of Vivian Girls, Dum Dum Girls et al in favour of something with grit – think PJ Harvey’s ‘Rid of Me’ or Hole back when they were good (really, that happened, check Youtube or something). Standout track ‘Little Sting’ even reminds us of Factory Records, which given the band’s location makes a lot of sense indeed. A cracking EP, indicative we hope of something very special yet to come.
