Boomkat Product Review:
LP2, or The Pink Album, as it's often called, was the second album (no kidding?) by Seattle's Sunny Day Real Estate, released on Sub Pop towards the end of 1995. The studio during these recording sessions must have been a truly bizarre working environment: the band had already broken up while they were putting the album together and so motivation was reportedly very low - hence the lack of a proper album title, or even artwork. Jeremy Enigk from the band has since confessed that some of the lyrics were unfinished during the sessions leading he and Dan Hoerner to ad lib gibberish and non-words during takes. Despite this, the album still garnered favourable reviews, and perhaps the context of its messy, posthumous origins makes the album all the more intriguing. The 2009 reissue of LP2 comes remastered with the inclusion of bonus tracks 'Spade And Parade' and 'Bucket Of Chicken' along with freshly penned liner notes.
