Boomkat Product Review:
Rui Ho came of age with last year's outstanding "In Pursuit of the Sun 逐日", a daring collision of gabber and hardcore sounds, IDM's whimsical melodic elements and Chinese folklore.
Now she follows it up with her Planet Mu debut "Lov3 & L1ght", continuing a theme of growth but now more formally approaching a pop formula and singing for the first time. The aggressively autotuned vocals, which explore Rui Ho's vocal feminization, are the album's centerpiece and fizz on top of dense productions that straddle rave threads that sit somewhere between Mechatok, SOPHIE and Arca. Rui Ho's end-goal is all about self-love, memorializing her roots and affirming her identity and she achieves this by turning the saturation, contrast and brightness all the way to 11.
