Boomkat Product Review:
Los Jacintos is Antiopic's first live release from David Daniell, one of the more interesting and original solo guitarists currently out there. Daniell has previously found acclaim as band leader of Rhys Chatham's guitar ensemble and for recording outstanding studio LPs for Table Of The Elements, but here we're given a taste of what one of his unaccompanied solo performances would sound like - though certainly in the first few minutes, it doesn't really sound like guitar music at all. Pulsating organ tones introduce the piece, layering drone-like chord figures before shimmering minor-key lead melodies emerge from a pool of sustain. By its midway point, the performance resembles something from John Fahey's amplified Table Of The Elements work, dipping into ragtime rolls and droning root notes before eventually dissolving into a harmonised, multi-layered glissando of pitch-shifted slide guitar. Recommended.
