Boomkat Product Review:
Extra subtle and mysterious vibes from Howes, Freestyle Man, Bianca Warlord and Death Poems make for a highly curious and cohesive mini comp / EP from Sähkö
Next in the label’s unpredictable, exquisite corpse like unfolding, ‘Los Interlocuteurs Fictifs’ follows ace turns by Basic House, Matthew Bourne, and 33.10.3402 already in 2021 with a variegated clutch of tracks that form a sort of impressionistic narrative. It’s notable not least for introducing two new artists to our ears, namely Death Poems and Bianca Warlord, with the former so obscure that they don’t even have a soundcloud page (whoa!), while the label coax out real low-key aces by new lamb Howes.
Sähkö’s 2nd new artist from NE England after Basic House, Howes’ yields a standout in ‘Double Well (Clover Mix)’, deploying bespoke software at the service of gorgeous, gyring ambient sculpture that precipitates danker dub techno urges, while longtime label alum Freestyle Man comes with a superb sort of squeaky electro swang like Sophie meets Mika Vainio. On their part, Death Poems are bound to attract attention for their enigmatic brand of sci-fi cinematic space music with ‘Guilty’ and Bianca Warlord keeps it wide open with their transition from crisp rhythmelodic patter to gauzy synth vapour and gurgling voices on ‘Bois De Pavel.’
