Boomkat Product Review:
The legendary producer behind cult electro-pop act, Gina X Performance presents his first solo debut album since 1981. Steeped in allusions to classical European philosophy, literature and composers, 'Logic of Coincidence' follows an extraordinary career arc stretching from his late '70s disco-not-disco masterpieces, thru production work for John Foxx, Fashion, Nina Hagen and Birth Control, to a 2013 collaboration with Austra. On the record's ambitious concept, influences and execution, Zeus explains: "I have always been fascinated by the mathematical and philosophical aspects of coincidence. For me, The Dice Man by Luke Rhinehart is an all-time favourite book. It tells the story of a psychiatrist who begins making life decisions based on the casting of dice, and I was lucky enough to find a recording of Rhinehart himself reading from it. These are soundtracks for imaginary, usually abstract scenes - film, theatre or performance - all of which involve philosophers, thinkers and writers who dealt with issues of chance and coincidence." Within the relatively brief window of time we've spent with the record it's hard to say how the grander concepts play out, but we can instantly tell you that the production is impeccable, effuse with gorgeous melodies and poised with a rarified, stranger charm that surely warrants his comparison with an "artier Giorgio Moroder."
