Boomkat Product Review:
**Reissued for 2010** What a strange little album this is, and how appropriately titled. Mysterious Polish artist Jacaszek has created over the course of this album 14 peculiar vignettes, haunting soundtracks to lost silent films or possibly the films of the brothers Quay. Each track is seemingly composed using sounds discovered in rotting toyboxes or on broken tapes - like Colleen if she had been brought up in Eastern Europe on a diet of pickled eggs and with only a battered old music box for company. There's something magical about this record, something un-contrived that I really like - there are plenty of electronic elements but it never really falls into the trappings of 'electronica' as such and although it reminds me of a great deal of other music it never feels like a homage. Spooky and rather beautiful.
