Boomkat Product Review:
Issued independently in 2004 to the US indie soul scene now reissued to the masses in 2006 via his Ammon Contact prepped deal with Ninja. This album is a nice introduction to spiritual vocal led soul jazz music. For the un-educated if you are thinking of buying this then you also need to check out the back catalogues of Leon Thomas and Gil Scott-Heron as well, that's the law! Featuring Derf Reklaw and including some nice covers, vocal interpretations of Coltrane's 'Wise One', Bill (Spike's dad) Lee's 'John Coltrane', Wayne Shorter's 'Footprints', Abdullah Ibrahim's 'Ishmael', Andy Bey's 'Celestial Blues', Freddie Hubbard's 'Little Sunflower' and Abbey Lincoln's 'Africa'. A rich vocal jazz album with a touch soul and retro vibes. Nice.
