Boomkat Product Review:
Blistering live testament to Nappy Nappa & Pat Cain’s Model Home recorded at Salford’s premier dodgy lodgings during their show for The Beauty Witch.
Preceded by their reputation for haywire rap noise sides on Future Times, Don Giovanni and, more recently, Warp’s unruly Disciples, Model Home come from the deep left-side of Washington, D.C. and US hip hop. This live session captures the MC and producer at their gonzo best; 45 minutes of drum machine blatz and jackplug-licking discord pebble-dashed by Nappa’s exhortations.
A perfect match for the anything-goes MOT venue-cum-freak sanctuary of The White Hotel, Model Home keep it breathlessly wayward and off-key while just-about-tethered to rap fundamentals of rhythm and rhyme. Actually, Nappa doesn’t quite so much rhythm, a la Sensational, but definitely keeps it on beat like a possessed street preacher in Piccadilly Gardens espousing his own religion. No fucks or quarter given, and fulminating FOMO for any cranky nuts who missed out, and who can absolve that matter here.
