Boomkat Product Review:
Wire are one of those bands whose status was pretty much confirmed as soon as they formed, and nothing is as telling as this double disc set which contains a recording of the band’s debut show in 1977 at the Roxy in London and then another show, in 1978 (after a heavy year of touring) at the legendry CBGBs club in New York. You simply can’t level criticism at a band who manage to shock the world as much as the Wire did with ‘Pink Flag’ and these recordings prove that the band, despite the rest of the punk scene being totally inept, had the tightness to pull off their incredibly forward thinking pseudo punk tracks live. With energy, power and a freshness that still stands today this set should be an essential part of any discerning Wire fan’s collection, and is available for the first time in ages (originally it was only available from the band themselves). What more can I say… buy!
