Liquid DnB-like Ambient Grime 2
Liquid DnB-like Ambient Grime 2
Fractal timeline benders by the curiously mantled Liquid DnB-Like Ambient Grime 2 project for the bassbin freaks at Berlin’s Sneaker Social Club - RIYL Filter Dread, The Bug, Logos, Black Zone Myth Chant, Luke J Murray
A properly rude and fucked up head scratcher to kick off the label’s 13th year, ‘Liquid DnB-like Ambient Grime 2’ does the things you’re not supposed to do in a dance track - like clashing beats of different tempos - but trust it works a deadly treat. As the track titles’ parentheses tell us, each cut loosely adheres to rules of that year and style, but they wickedly fuck with expectations in each.
For example the brusque, dark UKG swang of ’02 Garage Mix is pranged-out with shards of tech-step ballistics at oblique angles like some early attempt of El-B to fuse D&B with UKG, overseen by BZMC, whilst ’06 Dubstep Mix hails the dankest ends of Vex’d-like, pre-smoking ban dubstep lurch, but beat-up with Amiga-crunched amens in a way that does not care for fussy beat matchers. 2011 Techno Mix continues the fuckry to start up like a dark jungle tune but settles into a sub-loaded shard techno trot caked in warehouse filth, and ’22 Grime Mix rounds off with militant snares zipped up like a rusty drill bit.
