Boomkat Product Review:
Quio - or the artist formerly known as MC Looney Tunes (good decision!) - is back with a brand-spanking new AGF produced LP 'Like Ooh!', wherein the electro-soused spidery sound of yore is opened up to a wider audience through more accessible compositions and less aural tangents. With a vocal style that crackles between 21st Century diva and 'word-up blood' Mcing (think Lady Sovereign dancing with Madonna), Quio is no-where near as annoying as you might imagine; opening the record with the orchestral electro of 'Gliding' (feat Lise) which could be a lost recording from the Herbert/Murphy sessions. With the background kept razor sharp under the formidable gaze of AGF, the music on 'Like Oooh!' is never anything but scalpel fine and proves just why she is such a formidable presence on the micro-sound stage. So whilst 'Bah Fangoo!' grafts some art-school vocals onto a ruckus of clean lined/electrocuted Baille Funk and 'Gazon Gasolina' jerks along in a chopped analogue stylee, it is the sultry (yet gobby) 'Innocent' and its Black Box Recorder chill which really defines the album. That's all folks!
