Boomkat Product Review:
Second new artist on the trot from Chicago's (now Oakland based) Galapagos 4 label who are rapidly climbing the list of the u.s.'s most essential hip hop purveyors. By the way if you slept on the Robust, sort it out. Mestizo's rhymes come from the school of reality a deeply routed poetical approach that's current incarnation can be traced back to the early recordings of Sixtoo and the backcatalogue of the Peanuts and Corn label. Everyday topics are dropped in a frighteningly realistic manner, from the dread of serving up gluttonous popcorn to zombified teenagers to... well other soul destroying duties required to put food on your plate. On top of this seriously addictive and hard hitting flow is the finest variety of fine organic based funky hip hop music from producers such as Dreas, Meaty Ogre, White Lightning, Maker and Jackson Jones. Vocals guests include, Denizon Kane, Offwhyte, Qwel and Rift. For me the highlight is the heavenly 'Glass Box', lazy blues slide guitar and dusted beats - mighty fine. Highly recommended.
