Boomkat Product Review:
Spacemen 3's Sonic Boom reimagines a trio of tracks from Pye Corner Audio's "Let's Emerge", turning them into sludgy, fuzzed-out memories.
There couldn't be a more fitting artist to rework Pye Corner Audio's latest than Sonic Boom. He understands the source material implicitly, tearing 'Haze Loops' into shreds and rebuilding it as a barely-heard echo of grubby shoegaze, distant psychedelia and roughshod ambience. 'Saturation Point' is a little more robust, but Pete Kember wisely opts to still keep it loose, conducting a sound that's closer to Cluster than it is to the Radiophonic Workshop.
Closing track 'Warmth of the Sun' is the closest Kember gets to coherent, rhythmic pop, running headfirst from propulsive, gritty rhythm experimentation into electroid vocalizing and a near orchestral bliss-out finale.
