Boomkat Product Review:
The haute-roadman returneth on XL with the first of two EPs issued in series with Powell and Mumdance killahs.
Strangely enuff, he sounds like Legowelt's UK cousin for the majority of his 'Let's Jam 1' EP. Breakbeats are out the door, and loose, fluid 4/4 grooves are in the frame for a deep and body-hypnotic 'floor show.
The strident, riffin' techno swang of 'Surf I' cuts a path for the darker-toned, uptempo 'Surf II' to flex out like some shifty Rob Hood minimalism on the A-side.
Flip it over and 'Slime' resets the dance to a slower one-foot skank underlined with flaring LFOs, and 'Acid Surf' again highlights some Legowelt connection (implied or otherwise) both in title and impressionistic rave buzz aesthetic of gauzy sirens and crowd noise.
Pretty sick to see ZOMBY capitalised on an XL rave sleeve. Sounds wicked too!
