Boomkat Product Review:
Emerging from the Kaiser Chief addled streets of Leeds, The Lodger represent a welcome divergence from their stadium-felling pop du jour - taking a similar bag of elements, then combining them to a far more satisfying end. The toffee-apple to the Kaiser Chief's candy floss, The Lodger use their sugary pop melodies as a mere coating - undeniably bringing to mind the likes of the Boo Radleys and Blur, but relying on a darker set of influences that shift it away from mere pogo fodder. Closer to the more pessimistic oeuvre of solo Graham Coxon, The Lodger may well be so far down the Lamacq by-way that they make ample use of a horn section - but when the sun's shining, there's always room for some buoyant indie-solipsism. Bed and breakfast!
