Boomkat Product Review:
Aymeric De Tapol returns on Belgium's Vlek to follow their ace Lawrence Le Doux 12" with a quietly nuanced and ghostly suite of minimalist modular synth trips.
Trailing in the footsteps of 2014's Winter Dance 12", Les Horizons extracts subtly folkwise melodic repetitions and radiophonic drone from an undisclosed synth array recorded direct to a Stereo Revox B77 reel-to-reel.
The six tracks appear as spectral forms; ferric silhouettes of keening tones and shivering partials underlined by proto-techno pulses which, in lesser hands could just be another lo-fi mess around but, in de Tapol's grips make for an engagingly detailed, ambiguous and mesmerising listen.
