Boomkat Product Review:
Returning with their first new material since 2007's The Adventures Of Ghosthorse & Stillborn, sister duo CocoRosie sound in top form for this taster of the forthcoming Grey Oceans long-player. While the wide-eyed lo-fi naivety of La Maison De Mon Reve is never likely to be recaptured, on 'Lemonade' Bianca and Sierra Casady manage to sound matured and all the more experimental. It's the contrast between these two's contributions that makes the song work so well. Maudlin pianos and slow electronic beats combine during the verses while Bianca's slow, croaky vocals lead the way. Meanwhile, Sierra's 1930's style choruses arrive like they're from an entirely different song. A strange patchwork, but it definitely works. The single comes with the even more bizarre album track, 'Hopscotch' and non-album B-side 'Surfer Girl', which takes the form of a beautiful, quasi-vintage lullaby.
