Boomkat Product Review:
This release presents a newly remastered edition of the debut album by Marsen Jules, originally made available as a download from the Autoplate label. With these early compositions you can hear the blueprint for the releases that were to come on City Centre Offices, charting a course somewhere between Pop Ambient style electronic swells and sampled neo-classsical instrumentation. It's easy to be reminded of something like Biosphere's Shenzhou album when listening to these compositions; there's a similar approach to loop-based manipulations of string and horn recordings, producing such luscious fare as the soaring '359' and the layered, stately beauty of '425'. Proving itself to be especially memorable is '331' whose pitch-shifted and granulated orchestral exchanges sound especially magisterial. Excellent.
