Boomkat Product Review:
Well, this one is a bit unexpected. The Tikiman curated False Tuned imprint makes a swift detour into relatively alien styles with this release from Belgium's Jean-Marie Aerts, also known as JMX, a stalwart of the Belgian experimental and pop scenes. Moving between Serge Gainsbourg-esque smoky Gallic pop with sweetened dub inflections on 'La Valse de la vie', to grainy downbeat blues on 'froggy' and onto more typical false tuned style Rhythm and Sound dub with lush found sound and field recordings on 'Rien a dire'. The EP finishes with a hiphop lite cut on 'major seven' but the first three tracks make up for this with some style. A truly strange and unexpected move from this fantastic label, but it definitely seems to have paid off with some genre bending aplomb.
