Boomkat Product Review:
Strictly syncopated rhythms from CDMX’s Ragazza XXI, twisting up tresillo drum patterns compatible with UKF, reggaeton, kuduro - a strong look for fans of Kelman Duran, Dalibor Cruz, DJ Python, DJ Nigga Fox, Debit
A major new addition to the roster of Paris-based powerhouse, Promesses, Ragazza XXI brings a sweltering sort of subtropical heat to his nine aces, finely toggling the pressure between upfront bangers and some superb, brooding atmospheric touches. Seriously, the dancers, DJs and drum fiends are in for a treat here, turning up proper club gear between the whistling lead and gritty uptempo friction of ‘Cuartos de lustro’, and the deep blue downstroke of ‘Ándate ya, cariño’ on a DJ Python-esque flex, with big highlights strewn from the meld of Islam Chipsy-like microtonal synth leads with tightest dembow bump on ‘Água de Pena;’ the Arca-esque waviness of ‘Iridaceae;’ immersive sound design recalling Kelman Duran’s deep and fractious tekkers in ‘La cima del Mocte;’ whirring percussion for the hard drum nuts in ‘Cuatro Caminos;’ and the brooding slug of ‘Los ríos tienen memoria ft. Lamina.’
One to watch closely. Big TIP!
