Boomkat Product Review:
La Fever Lit is Larsen's eighth album, and a return to the studio after the CD and DVD release of Larsen & Friends' ABECEDA. As ever, the band are not short of star guest collaborators, and in this case Little Annie Anxiety Bandez (of Crass, Coil, Nurse With Wound and others) joins regular contributor Julia Kent. The band's windswept post-rock aesthetic would actually be rather unthinkable withot the multitracked cello of Kent (fitting this project around her workload as part of Antony & The Johnsons), and she brings a great deal of melody and structure to the likes of 'Lefrak City Limits', while also supplying melancholy textural touches to 'Flowers' and the album's ten-minute centrepiece 'Verge'. Little Annie breaks up the instrumental compositions with vocal recordings, taking on a similar role to that fulfilled by Swans singer Jarboe on Larsen's previous studio outing, Seies, adding to the air of dark, punkish gloom that sets Larsen's music apart from the more mathematically-inclined post-rock hordes.
