Boomkat Product Review:
*EP on Peter Strickland's Peripheral Conserve label with artwork by Babs Santini (aka Nurse with Wound’s Steven Stapleton)* "Xylitol is the musical persona of Jim Backhouse whose enviable record collection has frequently been aired over the years through his stints as a DJ at London’s Kosmische club and Resonance FM. The four tracks on this single are taken from an intense period of activity six or seven years ago. Only a small amount of tracks from that period were released with many more being equally deserving of wider listening. The caustic pop of Kunst ist Tot and Glass is offset by two corresponding ‘easy listening’ numbers, Lull and Dom that veer towards the world of Dick Hyman’s Moog records. The latter track is an instrumental cover version of Soeur Sourire’s Dominique. The Peripheral Conserve label is run by the filmmaker, Peter Strickland, who recently made the film, Berberian Sound Studio. The label was initially set up in 1999 to release music by The Sonic Catering Band, but in later years branched out to release records by The Bohman Brothers, The Balanescu Quartet’s Clare Connors, Roj and entomological recordings by Jim Reynolds and David Ragge."
